Sample engagements include:
Fleet Selection - Provided detailed cost models, availability and labour force estimates for a new mine development near Fort McMurray. Worked closely with the client's engineering consultants to match production estimates with cost projections for specific models of equipment in order to select the most appropriate classes of shovels and trucks to exploit the orebody.
Maintenance Strategy - Developed a consolidated maintenance strategy that leveraged outsourced services for fleet assets, primarily major component overhauls and welding, for a client's group of coalmines in the Powder River Basin in Eastern Wyoming. Ensured that outsourced services were procured competitively, that they met or exceeded industry quality standards, and that the business case for outsourcing provided an acceptable shareholder return. Also developed a dynamic “repair versus replace” model for the mine's haul truck fleet.
Product Support - For a major mining equipment manufacturer, delivered a strategic report entitled, “Mining Equipment Product Support Contracts”, to guide the company’s global maintenance delivery and contracting business. Outlined the critical factors in determining what type of product support is most effective for each customer, how to estimate the resources necessary to deliver parts and service, and how to identify and mitigate risks.
Product Introduction - Advised another leading OEM regarding its proposed development of hybrid propulsion for underground mining equipment based on a business case driven by energy savings from vehicle fuel burn and power consumed by ventilation infrastructure. Identified mining scenarios that would enjoy productivity benefits, and specific machine types where these benefits would be maximized.
